Avalanche Recall Goaltender Jonas Johansson
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

In today’s mailbag, I said the Colorado Avalanche might flip a coin the next time they need a backup goaltender to play a game.

It looks like the coin flip may have landed on Jonas Johansson.

After the loss to the Kraken on Sunday night, the Avalanche sent Keith Kinkaid down to the Eagles, opening a spot on the roster. Johansson was called up today to fill that spot.

Do the Avalanche dare start Johansson on Tuesday night against the lowly San Jose Sharks? It would be an awfully risky move, seeing as how the team has lost three straight. Then again, the team has to protect Alexandar Georgiev at this point. With no real update on Pavel Francouz, they can’t run Georgiev into the ground. Starting Johansson might force the Avalanche to buckle down defensively, as they’ve given up 17 goals in the last three games.

We’ll find out at morning skate who will be in net Tuesday. Keep an eye on CHN for updates.
