Andrew Copp signs one-year, $3.64M deal with Jets

The Winnipeg Jets know they'll have forward Andrew Copp for at least one more season.

Winnipeg announced on Thursday that Copp has signed a one-year contract that carries an average annual value of $3.64 million. The 27-year-old is coming off a campaign where he tallied 15 goals and 24 assists in 55 regular-season games and then added two assists in eight playoff contests.

The Jets selected Copp in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, and he's played only for Winnipeg throughout his NHL career. In total, he has 61 goals and 88 assists in 411 career regular-season games.

Before Winnipeg confirmed the Copp contract, Murat Ates of The Athletic reported the forward had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Aug. 26. Ates continued that Copp can now hit unrestricted free agency next summer and, thus, will likely become little more than a rental for the Jets because they could struggle to sign him to a long-term deal due to salary-cap issues.
