AHL Affiliate Trades for Former Penguins PTO

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have made a move to acquire a player that has some familiarity with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

It was announced that the WBS Penguins acquired forward Peter Abbandonato and defenseman Owen Headrick; Abbandonato attended Penguins training camp on a professional tryout contract.

Both players are coming from the Chicago Wolves and were acquired for future considerations.

Abbandonato has spent a majority of his professional hockey career with a number of teams across the AHL while also taking a few stints in the ECHL.

At only 25-years-old, Abbandonato has scored a goal and two assists in 12 games with the Wolves this season.

The Penguins released Abbandonato shortly after the start of training camp.

Headrick is playing in just his second full season of professional hockey; in 2017-18, he played four games with the Penguins’ ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers.

Last season with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, Headrick scored 54 points (15G-39A) in 61 games.

Headrick played junior hockey in the OHL with the Erie Otters.
