Week 9 NFL underdog report: Dak Prescott owns the Eagles

This week’s NFL schedule features good matchups between evenly matched teams. These games have the greatest upset potential. (For the latest odds, go to OddsChecker.)

Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5)

After an embarrassing 24-9 loss to Denver, the Chiefs look to rebound against Miami at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany. It’s the first of two NFL games to be held in Deutschland this year and could be the best game of the week.

Kansas City couldn’t manage a touchdown against the Broncos, while Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa threw for 324 yards and three scores against New England in Week 8. Wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle each went over 100 yards for the day, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey had an interception in his first game of the year.

Miami hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record all year, but that could change Sunday morning. Not only did the Chiefs struggle to move the ball against Denver, but they had five turnovers. An overseas trip is probably the last thing head coach Andy Reid needs right now as he looks to get the team refocused.

The Dolphins have more to play for with first-place in the AFC East on the line, so expect a highly motivated, highly skilled Miami offense to pull out all the stops against the reigning Super Bowl champions.

New York Giants at Las Vegas Raiders (-2)

Will Raiders players abandon ship after the team fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler? It’s possible. Wide receiver Davante Adams was visibly frustrated after losing to Detroit, and he’ll be catching passes from a fourth-round rookie quarterback — Aidan O'Connell — moving forward after the team made Jimmy Garoppolo walk the plank.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is back on board after missing three games with a neck injury. He hasn’t played well this season, but a few short passes to running back Saquon Barkley could be all it takes to get him going.

Long passes to Jalin Hyatt would also help. The little-used rookie receiver has only nine receptions but is a big play waiting to happen, averaging 21.7 yards per catch. With tight end Darren Waller on the shelf, the team should look to get Hyatt the ball. If they do, the Giants could leave Las Vegas with their third win of the season.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (-3)

If Chiefs-Dolphins isn’t the game of the week, this matchup could be it. “Dallas week” is kind of a big deal for Philadelphians every year, but they could be underestimating their division rival.

For all the abuse he takes (and will take from the denizens of Lincoln Financial Field), Dak Prescott is 8-3 against the Eagles in his career. He threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns to beat Philadelphia last year and hasn’t lost to the Eagles since 2019.

Believe it or not, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has thrown more interceptions (8) than Prescott (5) this season. He also has three fumbles and no time for reporters who want to talk about his injured knee.

Offensively, these teams are even. Philadelphia scores 28 points per game, while Dallas averages 28.1 points per contest. Defensively, the Cowboys have an edge, allowing 17.1 points to the Eagles’ 21.5 points per game.

Halloween may be over, but expect to hear plenty of “boos” as Prescott and the Cowboys send the Eagles to their bye week with their second loss of 2023.
