Troy Aikman: Buccaneers' Tom Brady 'the most un-athletic quarterback in the game'

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman roasted Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady during the latest edition of the "Sports Illustrated Media Podcast."

"I kid him about it — he’s the most un-athletic quarterback in the game," Aikman said about Brady, as shared by Michael Blinn of the New York Post. "I’m 56 years old, and I’m pretty confident I can outrun him in the 40-yard dash."

Specifically, Aikman was discussing how Brady has avoided taking sacks thanks to his quick release despite the fact that he's played behind an offensive line decimated by injuries. According to ESPN stats, 28 quarterbacks were sacked more times during the 2022 regular season than Brady (22).

"He will not take a sack," Aikman continued about the 45-year-old. "He’ll get the ball out, he doesn’t create negative plays and this is why any team that’s playing a quarterback like him, one, he’s the greatest to ever do it, and then also, coaches know, they see that, they recognize, you can’t keep him in it. You give him a chance in the fourth quarter, it’s gonna be a tough finish."

To his credit, Brady has poked fun at himself over his lack of speed throughout the latter portions of his once-in-a-generation career. However, the Monday night home wild-card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys may prove to be no laughing matter for the seven-time Super Bowl champion considering Dallas will enter that matchup tied for third with 54 team sacks on the campaign.

"It’s always cool going against Brady because, s---, none of us know when his last game is," Cowboys star pass-rusher Micah Parsons said this week, per Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports. "So hopefully we get the win and get to be known for being the last. Like any other QB — he bleeds the same way...He’s just a better QB than most. So the challenge is higher."
