Tom Brady addressed playing status before Jets lost Aaron Rodgers

Retired quarterback Tom Brady somewhat touched upon his playing status during the latest edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast that was released shortly before the New York Jets lost Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending torn Achilles.

It sounds like the G.O.A.T. has no interest in completing yet another dramatic NFL return with the Jets or any other franchise. 

"I think the advice I gave different guys is if they’re looking in their career, and I told this to a friend last night," Brady explained on the program that aired early Monday evening, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. "'Just make sure you leave it all out there.' Because you just never want to have one drop left and think, 'Ah, everyone’s out there playing, and I’m sitting up here, and I still feel like I could do it.' I don’t feel like that. I feel like I’m just super content with my decision and where I’m at in life."

Unlike when Brady ended a short-lived retirement in 2022, the 46-year-old walked away "for good" in February and has since given zero indication he wants to play this fall. Brady reportedly is actively preparing to become Fox's lead NFL analyst in 2024, and he declared during a ceremony held at Gillette Stadium this past weekend he considers himself a member of the New England Patriots family "for life." 

The Patriots plan to induct Brady into their Hall of Fame next June.

Additionally, Brady is set to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders and likely could only feature for that organization if he wanted to play as soon as October. 

"...If that transaction has been consummated, it's difficult to imagine the league letting the owner of one team play for another," ESPN's Bill Barnwell wrote before it was confirmed Rodgers is out for the campaign. "He also might balk at the idea of lining up in the same division as the Patriots." 

During Monday's show, Brady said his experience on Sunday "was a great celebration and another once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me." He's left little doubt his love for the Patriots remains strong even though he spent his final three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so the Jets probably will have to look elsewhere in their search for a new primary backup behind the previously demoted Zach Wilson.
