Texans Offensive Tackle Laremy Tunsil Named Pro Bowl Starter
USA TODAY Sports

- Welcome back to the Pro Bowl, Laremy Tunsil.

The Houston Texans left tackle was voted a starter for the AFC roster in the 2024 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Since joining the Texans prior to the 2019 season, Tunsil has been selected to four Pro Bowls (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023). Last offseason, he inked a new three-year deal worth $75 million, making him the highest-paid tackle in annual salary ($25 million).

A staple on the blindside, Tunsil continues to post All-Pro numbers entering his age 30 season. Through 16 games in 2023, he's allowed just 12 quarterback hurries, tied for the second-fewest in the NFL and the fewest among AFC players. His 84.1 pass-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus, is the third-lowest in the league behind Dallas Cowboys' Tyron Smith and Denver Broncos Garrett Bolles.

Neither player was named to the Pro Bowl roster as a starter or backup.

Tunsil is the only player selected for the Pro Bowl in 2024. Six Texans were named alternates, including defensive end Will Anderson Jr. (first), cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. (first), quarterback C.J. Stroud (second), fullback Andrew Beck (second), wide receiver Nico Collins (fourth) and defensive end Jonathan Greenard (fifth).

Stroud, the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, could replace one of the starters should they make it to the Super Bowl. The No. 2 pick has dazzled when healthy, throwing for 3,844 yards and 21 touchdowns against five interceptions.

Collins recorded his first 1,000-yard season and could finish with over 1,200 yards, a first for a Texans receiver since DeAndre Hopkins in 2018.

Greenard became the first Texans player since J.J. Watt in 2018 to record 12-plus sacks with 12.5. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Stingley, one of two first-round picks from 2022, is currently tied for fourth in interceptions with five.

Anderson, last season's No. 3 pick and potential Defensive Rookie of the Year, recently broke the Texans’ franchise rookie record for sacks (7) in a season during Sunday's 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Pro Bowl is no longer the traditional padded game between players. Since 2002, the league has shifted more to go games throughout the week and a flag football game on Sunday to end the week.

The Pro Bowl will occur in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 1 and will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Houston remains atop the AFC South standings entering Week 18's matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. With a victory, the Texans would clinch an AFC Playoff berth for the first time since 2019.

With a win and a Jacksonville loss, the Texans would clinch the AFC South for the first time since Tunsil's inaugural season and play host to the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round.

Kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
