Texans general manager Nick Caserio hates one scouting term used too often at the NFL Combine
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Since general manager Nick Caserio came to town, the Houston Texans do things differently at the NFL Combine than most teams. They aren't there to watch the workouts or measure the measurables. They are there to talk to the kids and meet players, agents, other teams, etc.

And, hey, maybe most teams do that, but the Texans don't really care for the drills part. Sure, it can be helpful, but everything they need to know is on the college tape they have been watching already all year long.

There are things that teams and scouts do that are just weird, to say the least. Some of the things we hear scouts and GMs, and even Twitter users rave over simply don't matter as much as they think. I'm talking about the weird, quirky phrases we hear. When Nick Caserio was asked about it, he couldn't help but laugh.

"The whole body type-thing," Caserio said on TV. "Some of the vernacular that's associated with that. I mean, I don't really care how knotted his calves are."

In all seriousness, though, the Texans just want to find guys who can play football, are smart, and fit what they need. Most importantly, just like head coach DeMeco Ryans said, they value the person over the player. They want a great person before they want a great player. That's how they came up with their picks in this last draft and even the draft before that.

Luckily for them, there are plenty of guys to choose from in this draft that fit their criteria. As things currently stand, they still are not drafting a tackle in the first round, so if all the national media members could stop mocking tackles to the Texans in the first round, that would be amazing.

As far as things currently stand, the Texans should either be going wide receiver, defensive tackle, or defensive back at pick No. 23. They will have plenty to choose from. However, the fact that he can have as good as drafts as he has had without really being all into the NFL Combine just says how different he is as a GM, and how he is really on another level. Look at what he's been able to do in such a short time, and, hey, for all we know, drafting C.J. Stroud could go down as one of the greatest draft picks in NFL history.
