Steelers K Chris Boswell not 'worrying' about contract ahead of season

Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Diontae Johnson was not a full participant at the start of training camp practices this week as he looks to secure a long-term extension ahead of the final year of his rookie contract.

Johnson isn't the only noteworthy member of the Steelers with business matters on his mind during the closing week of July.

As Chris Adamski noted for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh placekicker Chris Boswell is also in the last year of his current deal. The 31-year-old who has played only for the Steelers since 2015 converted 36-of-40 field goal attempts during the 2021 regular season, and he's a perfect 16-for-16 on career field goals tried during playoff games.

Boswell spoke with media members on Thursday and was asked if he's optimistic he'll put pen to paper on a new deal before the upcoming regular season gets underway in September.

"I am sure, I am sure," Boswell responded. "But I am here to kick, and I am here to do what I can for the team; I am not here to think about a contract or numbers. I am going to go out there (and work); I made it that way this far in my career, so I am not going to start worrying about that (contract situation) now."

Boswell added the Steelers "have their priorities, who they are going to sign and when" and that he's "just along for that ride right now and whatever happens at that point will happen." He also said he wishes to remain with the Steelers because of his "love" for the franchise and city.
