The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing significant needs as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, slated to unfold in Detroit, Michigan on April 25. While the Steelers have made strides in their offseason endeavors, the looming draft remains pivotal for their continued success. In the first round, speculation runs rampant, leaving many uncertain of the team's strategic direction. Numerous pundits have conjectured that the Steelers may opt for an offensive tackle in the opening round.

Presently, the Steelers find themselves in dire need of a center and a wide receiver who can seamlessly step into starting roles as rookies. Following the release of their 2023 starting center, Mason Cole, the team lacks a viable replacement, leaving a crucial void in their lineup. Additionally, the trade of Diontae Johnson has left the wide receiver position in need of a standout player to fill the void. The decisions made in the draft are poised to exert significant influence on the trajectory of the Steelers' 2024 season.

In light of the uncertainties surrounding the draft, Circa Sportsbook took to their social media platform on Monday to unveil the odds of various prospects projected to be drafted and when they'll get picked. Among these prospects are names that have frequently emerged in discussions among insiders and pundits as potential targets for the Steelers.

As pointed out by Circa, Draft Position props work like this: Over signifies that the player is selected at a higher draft position number (i.e., later in the draft), while Under indicates a lower draft position number (i.e., earlier). Betting is possible on each side of this proposition, often at different prices.

One particularly intriguing name with set odds is DeJean, the versatile defensive back from Iowa. Although cornerback isn't the Steelers' most desperate need, it remains a consideration for round one. DeJean's projected pick is at 20.5, aligning closely with the Steelers' 20th pick. This suggests that according to oddsmakers, he could be an attractive pick for the Steelers, offering solid draft value, unless higher-ranked prospects fall to them.

The Steelers face a significant need to bolster their offensive line, adding complexity to their first-round strategy. While there's a need for a center, some speculate they may wait until day two to address it, hoping to secure their next starting center. The offensive tackle from Georgia, Mims has frequently been projected to the Steelers and is currently slated with odds suggesting he'll be drafted around the 24.5 mark. Meanwhile, Powers-Johnson's over/under is set at 30.5. Despite a recent decline in stock, Powers-Johnson was once the top-ranked center in this draft class.

Steelers Wrestle With Best Player Available Versus Desperate Needs

In the draft, some picks are clear-cut at the outset. However, as it progresses, circumstances can swiftly shift. Players initially projected to go high may unexpectedly fall, presenting the Steelers with the opportunity to secure a highly talented player. Yet, this may require temporarily setting aside other pressing needs.

The Steelers' approach to their first-round pick will be intriguing to observe as they weigh the option of selecting the best available athlete against addressing their urgent requirements at positions like offensive tackle, center, and wide receiver. Cornerback could also factor into this equation, although the center position likely represents the most critical need, closely followed by wide receiver. Steelers fans are eagerly anticipating their decisions in the draft.
