Steelers elevate LB Tariq Carpenter, S Trenton Thompson
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Following a couple of season-ending injuries at LB, and a secondary that is short-handed, the Pittsburgh Steelers are making practice squad elevations.

Per the team, LB Tariq Carpenter and safety Trenton Thompson will be elevated ahead of the Browns game, with LB Mykal Walker being signed to the active roster:

Tariq Carpenter

Carpenter was elevated before the Packers game, where he made his Steelers debut against the very team that drafted him and cut him just months ago. He didn't take any snaps with the defense but he made multiple plays on special teams and has been working in with the dime personnel package on defense this week, meaning he's likely to see some live snaps against the Browns in obvious passing situations.

Trenton Thompson

Thompson was also called up last week following the injury to Minkah Fitzpatrick. He was an excellent player in camp and during the preseason, making him a tough cut, but obvious addition to the practice swuad. With both Minkah and Keanu Neal banged up, Thompson may also see some valuable snaps.

Mykal Walker

Walker was out there tackling Steelers a little over a year ago in Atlanta, but he now is prepared to make his debut in the black and gold, and according to him, in a fairly big role. Walker has been taking reps in all personnel packages and will likely be the Steelers # 3 chiiec at LB behind starters Elandon Roberts and Mark Robinson.
