The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding a safety to their roster for Week 11, elevating defensive back Trenton Thompson to the active/inactive list against the Cleveland Browns.
Thompson was elevated for Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, making his debut with the Steelers. With Minkah Fitzpatrick and Keanu Neal both ruled out for the Browns game due to injuries, Thompson will play a second time, and is expected to start.
"Believing in yourself. I would say first things first: confidence for sure," Thompson said on why he's confident in his ability to step into a bigger role for the Steelers. "I've always been a confident football player. And then, even though I haven't had real defensive snaps, I'm just going to keep saying it's just football. You can't overthink it."
Thompson and Damontae Kazee are expected to fill the starting role this week, with Elijah Riley and Miles Killebrew available as depth. Patrick Peterson has also been working at safety throughout the week to add other options.
Thompson will play just his third NFL game in Week 11. He's yet to record a stat.
