Should Steelers redshirt rookie LB in 2023?

The Steelers' 2023 NFL Draft class has been graded as one of the best in the league. However, some believe one of their rookies shouldn't play this season.

That player is LB Nick Herbig, whom Pittsburgh selected with pick No. 132 in the fourth round. Standing at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, some think he is undersized and that it would be best for him to redshirt in 2023 to bulk up.

If the Steelers did decide to redshirt Herbig, they would certainly need to add another edge rusher to the room before the start of the season as they would be very thin behind linebackers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

It doesn't sound like the team shares the opinion that Herbig needs a developmental year. Outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin sounds excited about what Herbig could bring to the team in year one.

"Really like his pass rush ability. Really like his competitiveness," Martin told reporters. "I think you see it. It's very evident. Very excited to get to work with him. Looking forward to it."

Herbig totaled 108 tackles, 30 sacks and four forced fumbles from 2021-22 at Wisconsin.

If he can find similar success at the next level, which Pittsburgh seems to believe he can, fans should want Herbig on the field as soon as possible.
