Shaun King: Buccaneers' Tom Brady is 'deteriorating'

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Shaun King has offered an unflattering assessment of Tom Brady.

According to the Joe Bucs Fan website, King was asked during an appearance on CBS Sports Radio if Brady's struggles featuring for an underperforming Tampa Bay offense are linked with the fact that the seven-time Super Bowl champion turned 45 years old before the season.

"I think it is," King responded. "You know the thing about Father Time, he don’t really give you like a two-week notice. … Father Time just shows up and, you know, you go to make a cut you used to make and you can’t make it; you got to throw a pass that you used to make and now, its ahhhh. … [Brady and Indianapolis Colts starter Matt Ryan] are trying to adjust on the fly as they’re deteriorating because of age."

King played for the Buccaneers from 1999 through the 2003 season and is a "lifelong" fan of the club, per Joe Bucs Fan. For what it's worth, King is hardly the first member of the pro football community to suggest this fall that Brady is no longer the Most Valuable Player candidate he was even a year ago.

Next Gen Stats were used in late October to show Brady repeatedly missed open receivers throughout the opening half of the campaign, and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms said earlier this month Brady is "not very good anymore."

Per ESPN, Brady heads into Week 13 fourth in the NFL with 3,051 passing yards, 15th among qualified quarterbacks with a 92.4 passer rating, tied for 17th with a 53.9 total QBR, and tied for 15th with 14 passing touchdowns. He's thrown just two interceptions for the 5-6 Buccaneers that are in first place thanks to existing in the lousy NFC South.

Brady and his Buccaneers will next host the 4-8 New Orleans Saints this coming Monday night.
