Seattle Seahawks make intriguing free agency signing at one of their biggest problem areas
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are starting fresh at the linebacker position, and they are doing so in part with an intriguing young player coming off the best season of his career.

Seattle, per Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, is signing Tyrel Dodson to help fill the void after the Seahawks said farewell to both Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner.

Dodson enjoyed a superb season for the Buffalo Bills in 2023, registering a career-high 74 tackles along with eight tackles for loss, six quarterback hits and 2.5 sacks.

Additionally, Dodson also recorded two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Though he was used sparingly in coverage, Dodson had the seventh-highest Pro Football Focus coverage grade among off-ball linebackers. He was targeted just twice on only 17 coverage snaps.

It remains to be seen in what role Dodson will be used by the Seahawks in 2024 with their linebacker depth chart very much in flux at this point in the offseason, but it's an intriguing signing at an area of critical need.
