Seahawks safety Jamal Adams breaks finger in 'freak accident' at practice

After playing the last two seasons with dislocated fingers on his left hand, Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is now dealing with a broken middle finger on that same hand.

According to the Seattle Times, Adams suffered the injury in "a freak accident" on one of the final plays of a no-contact practice Wednesday when his finger caught in a teammate's face mask. While Adams may get surgery after the season, he reportedly plans to be back on the practice field in early August and should be ready for the team's regular season opener.

Adams, 26, has made three Pro Bowls but struggled in 2021, finishing the season with zero sacks and zero forced fumbles. The former New York Jets safety had 21.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles in his first four NFL seasons.

Earlier this year, Adams revealed that he had surgery to fuse his ring and middle fingers together, in addition to the shoulder surgery he had in December 2021.

In June, the safety said that he hoped the offseason procedures would lead to a bounce-back season in 2022.

"[I] played with one arm damn-near for two years," Adams told ESPN last month. "My first year when I got here, I dislocated my ring finger probably about 10 times, and the other one probably about ... 12. Been dealing with that. Ain't really said much. Let everybody talk about it, whatever. But it's good now, and they're in trouble."

The Seahawks acquired Adams from the Jets in a package that sent 2021 and 2022 first-round picks to New York. In 2021, Seattle signed Adams to a four-year, $72 million contract extension.
