Saints officially make move that fans have been waiting for
via USA TODAY-Sports

The New Orleans Saints made a move that was expected by many on Monday. They officially have their new offensive coordinator.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Saints have officially come to an agreement with 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak to become their new offensive coordinator.

Kubiak was New Orleans' top candidate, according to Rapoport. No one except the front office/staff knows if that's the case, but they did show consistent interest in him from the start of their search. The Saints had to wait until the 49ers were eliminated from the postseason to officially make the deal.

The 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday evening, and Kubiak has his deal the following morning.

New Orleans interviewed 11 candidates for their OC job after firing Pete Carmichael Jr. Kubiak is 36 years old and possesses a multitude of NFL coaching experience, including some play-calling.

Kubiak is the son of Gary Kubiak. His father was a major proponent for NFL offenses during the 2010s. His rushing attacks were consistently impressive, and New Orleans hopes that his son can revitalize a talented rushing unit with the Saints. Gary won a Super Bowl as a head coach with the Denver Broncos in 2015.

Spending time under 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan could prove useful for Kubiak. Shanahan is one of the most well-respected, modern offensive minds that consistently puts a great product on the field. New Orleans is looking for that sort of stability and success on offense.

The Saints took their time, but ultimately, got a top-flight candidate with plenty to prove as a young assistant in Kubiak.
