Reporter discusses if Eagles were interested in Bill Belichick this offseason

There's more information about how serious the Philadelphia Eagles allegedly were about replacing head coach Nick Sirianni with living legend Bill Belichick this winter. 

"Probably the most interesting thing that I've heard, and again this is just Senior Bowl rumor mill, is that the Eagles were very interested in Belichick if things didn't work out with Nick Sirianni, and they could be at the front of the line if things again go poorly for (Sirianni) next year," NFL insider Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal said about the situation during an appearance on Boston sports radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub, per Erin Walsh of Bleacher Report.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported earlier this month that the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys "expressed interest in Belichick" and that "Belichick didn’t reciprocate." Florio offered his update after Sirianni's 2023 squad went from 10-1 to 11-6 and then suffered a humiliating 32-9 wild-card playoff loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bedard indicated that Sirianni's willingness to part ways with both defensive coordinator Sean Desai and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson this winter may have helped save the 42-year-old's job even though Belichick remains available. 

However, Bedard added he's convinced the Eagles "backchanneled on Bill" largely because Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman has a good relationship with the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach who turns 72 years old in April. 

Interestingly, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones insisted on Tuesday he has "no doubt" he and Belichick "could work together." Current Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy is set to enter the final year of his contract. 

Meanwhile, the New York Giants have also been named as a club that could possibly pursue Belichick next January even though Giants reporter Jordan Raanan of ESPN has suggested Belichick isn't particularly fond of team co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch. 

For what it's worth, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk mentioned on Wednesday morning that the Washington Commanders still need a head coach this offseason and could prevent Belichick from potentially joining a division rival in January 2025.
