Pollard had a career-high 252 carries, and the Cowboys failed to develop a second option in the run game, finishing 15th in the league in rushing yards (113.5). 

"Tony had a great year last year," team executive vice president Stephen Jones said, via Watkins. "He's another one of those guys, he's the type of player you want around but all that's going to boil down to the business side of things in terms of what we can do with Tony." 

Spotrac estimates the Cowboys are $4.03M over the cap. Pollard's market value is a two-year deal worth $13.05M, eighth at his position.

The club may also consider finding a better player. Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley will be available when free agency begins on March 13. 

This gives the Cowboys something to think about, but they shouldn't rule out bringing Pollard back, especially if he's willing to make a sacrifice to stay with the team.
