Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

According to Coconut Creek Talk, a news site based in Coconut Creek, nearby Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, NFL running back Damien Williams has been charged with battery of a pregnant victim.

Here was that initial report and details from Creek Talk:

“Damien Williams was arrested and charged with battery of a pregnant victim. According to arrest records, the Coconut Creek Police Department responded to a domestic violence call from a residence on January 22 at approximately 11:05 a.m., in which Williams, 31, was the reported aggressor.”

Here’s more that was gathered from the police report:

“Officers encountered a woman with visible injuries, including scratch marks and bruising on her arms and redness on her neck. During an interview, the victim told officers that she was ten weeks pregnant with Williams’ child, a fact he was aware of.”

Creek Talk added that the incident was incited by a dispute over dog food.

“The report indicates that the altercation allegedly began over a disagreement concerning their dog’s food and escalated rapidly. Williams is accused of initiating physical contact by grabbing the victim’s neck, leading to a physical altercation.”

Per the news article, no statement was made by the victim and Williams is currently in jail.

“Despite the severity of the incident and her fresh injuries, the victim chose not to provide a recorded statement. Williams was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.”

Damien Williams found a spot in the NFL by way of Oklahoma, where he played two years in college. With the Sooners in 2012 and 2013, Williams racked up a hair under 1,500 total rushing yards with 1,499 along with 19 total touchdowns.

He went undrafted out of school, but eventually caught on with the Miami Dolphins, where he played for four seasons but never rushed for more than 200 yards in any of them. In 2018, he caught on with the Kansas City Chiefs and became a staple of their RB stable, rushing for 256 yards his first season before contributing north of 700 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in the best year of his career for the Super Bowl winners in 2019.

Following his stint in Kansas City, Williams played the 2021 season with the Chicago Bears, then moved to the Atlanta Falcons for 2022, and most recently logged action in 2023 with the Arizona Cardinals. He only appeared in four total games over the last two seasons, though.
