Report: Buccaneers Expected to Release Veteran Offensive Player

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently are over the salary cap by a whopping $55+ million and are working through their roster cuts to be cap compliant by the deadline on March 13th at 4 pm.

The Bucs have already announced they intend to release running back Leonard Fournette - a move that will save them approximately $3.5 million. On Thursday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler broke the news that the Buccaneers also intend on releasing veteran tight end, Cameron Brate.

Brate first became a Buccaneer after going undrafted out of Harvard in 2014. After his first season, where he spent much of his time on the practice squad, Brate was released and picked up by the New Orleans Saints. His time with the Saints didn't last long as he was eventually re-signed by the Buccaneers.

Brate's 2022 season was one to forget as he battled with injuries throughout the season, eventually missing a total of six games, while also losing snaps to incumbent rookie tight end, Cade Otton. In 2022, Brate posted just 20 catches for 174 yards, but his season may have been worth it as his last touchdown catch was the last touchdown throw from Tom Brady ever.

Brate may not go down as one of the most remembered Buccaneers of all time, but he was able to make a name for himself and saw the good and bad of what the organization went through. He finishes his career in Tampa Bay with 273 catches for 2,857 yards and 33 TDs.
