Report: Bill Belichick will have second interview with Falcons

Could Bill Belichick end up wearing an Atlanta Falcons hoodie next season?

Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the former New England Patriots coach will have a second interview with Atlanta this weekend after he met with owner Arthur Blank earlier this week. According to BetMGM, the Falcons are favored to become his next team (-140).

Atlanta would be a good landing spot for the six-time Super Bowl champion. Although the Falcons went 7-10, they have a talented young roster with playmakers, such as running back Bijan Robinson, tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Drake London. Safety Jessie Bates III — who was third in the league in interceptions (six in 17 games) — earned his second Pro Bowl nod.

Atlanta's main question is QB. Desmond Ridder didn't look like the answer, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 2,836 yards, 12 TDs, 12 interceptions and a below-average 40.2 QBR in 15 games. Taylor Heinicke went 1-3 as a starter.

The Falcons are in a position to find a potential improvement at the most important position. They have the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In his latest mock draft, The Athletic's Dane Brugler predicted they would select LSU's Jayden Daniels — the 2023 Heisman winner.

After Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers in 2020, Belichick struggled in his last three seasons in New England, going 22-29. Still, he's arguably the greatest coach in NFL history, as he needs 14 more wins to break Hall of Famer Don Shula's record (347).

Hiring the future HOFer would be the right choice and could help the franchise rebound. Atlanta hasn't made the playoffs since 2017 and has had six straight losing seasons.
