Ravens waive one-time Super Bowl champion

One veteran running back won't have the opportunity to get carried to another Super Bowl victory.

The Baltimore Ravens announced on Wednesday that they have waived running back Melvin Gordon. The move comes days before Baltimore’s playoff opener on Saturday against Houston in the divisional round.

Gordon, 30, had spent this entire season with the Ravens but played very sparingly. He made just four total appearances for Baltimore in the regular season, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on 3.1 yards per carry.

The former two-time Pro Bowler Gordon already got a Super Bowl ring last season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad despite not actually playing for them. He won’t be getting a chance to repeat, though, as the Ravens enter the playoffs with a different running back to sop up the leftover carries instead.
