Ravens' Marlon Humphrey seemingly criticizes Bill Belichick
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Marlon Humphrey clearly does not think much of Bill Belichick and is using the legendary coach’s lack of employment as evidence that the six-time Super Bowl winner is overrated.

After the Washington Commanders hired Dan Quinn, shutting Belichick out of every job opening, Humphrey posted to X suggesting that if Belichick really was the greatest coach ever, he would have been hired. That he was not, according to Humphrey, signals “that debate can be put to rest.”

That is a pretty bold conclusion, and definitely overly simplistic. The biggest reason Belichick was not hired seems to be that it may have required significant changes to organizational structure, which at least one team was unwilling to commit to. If one wanted to make a case against Belichick, they would probably do better pointing to his lack of success after Tom Brady left the Patriots.

Humphrey has spent his entire career with the Ravens, so while he has clashed with Belichick, he has never played for the coach. It’s a pretty bold stance for someone who has not crossed paths with the coach all that often.
