Ravens add Super Bowl-winning RB to practice squad
Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens Are preparing for their divisional round home game this weekend against the Houston Texans, with a trip to the AFC Championship on the line. The team had a first-round bye during the wild card round for being the number one seed, so their players should be healthy and ready to go. However, the team has signed a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion at running back to be further prepared for the big game.

The Ravens are signing running back Melvin Gordon to their practice squad just one day before their first playoff game of the season. Gordon signed with the team earlier this season, however, he was not able to produce much for Baltimore’s offense, which led to him being cut. Now, the team is bringing him back, but this time to the practice squad. There could be a chance that he will be elevated if the Ravens make a push for a Super Bowl, but he will remain on the practice squad for now.

Melvin Gordon’s Career

Gordon started his career with the Los Angeles Chargers back in 2015, who were back then in San Diego. He was able to cement himself as the starter and even went for over 1,000 rushing yards in 2017. However, he was released by the team in 2018 after being plagued by injuries and not being able to produce as much as he did at the beginning of his career.

He was then placed on the practice squad for the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl during Gordon’s time with the team, but the running back was never elevated. He was then moved to the Denver Broncos, who thought they would be the lucky team to help Gordon resurge. In each of his first two seasons with Denver, he was able to amount to over 900 rushing yards and equate to almost 10 touchdowns. However, he began having ball security issues in 2022 and was only able to gain 318 yards, which led to him being released.

Will Gordon Get Playing Time?

Gordon has been with the Ravens throughout the year, but has only played in four games and rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown. The team released him, and now they have brought him aboard to their practice squad. Do you think the running back will win be elevated during the Ravens playoff push, or will he remain on the practice squad, and possibly be released again?
