Ranking Rumored Zach Ertz Landing Spots
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz has cleared waivers and is now free to sign with any team after he was released earlier this week, per his request.

The departure reportedly was mutual between the two sides and was "brewing for weeks," according to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.

Arizona has second-year tight end Trey McBride ready to take over and saved some nice cap space in the process.

As for Ertz, the end of his career is clearly approaching, and the 2-10 Cardinals didn't exactly give him a chance to compete for another Super Bowl title.

As the regular season crawls closer to its conclusion, four teams were outlined as the favorites to land Ertz by Schultz, who just turned 33-years-old.

Let's rank them:

4. Buffalo Bills

Last but certainly not least are the Bills, who are still a strong option for Ertz. As long as you have Josh Allen on your squad, anything is possible.

Buffalo lost one of their two strong tight ends in Dawson Knox earlier in the year to a wrist injury, and perhaps Ertz could provide the Bills with a boost at the position.

However, Buffalo has fallen under expectations thus far, sitting at just 6-6 on the year and out of the playoff picture. If Ertz is truly only gunning for a Super Bowl, asking the Bills to turn it around, make the postseason and conquer a mighty tough AFC would be asking a lot.

Ertz wouldn't have to be a solidified TE1 for Buffalo with Dalton Kincaid in the picture - and perhaps that helps - but out of the four options, the Bills have to be considered the weakest.

3. Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore recently lost Mark Andrews to an ankle injury, and though the Ravens have Isaiah Likely, the team would still like to bolster their offensive arsenal with Ertz.

The Ravens are playing some of the best football in the league right now, sitting atop the AFC at 9-3 and have shown no signs of slowing down.

Baltimore certainly loves to run the ball, and while Ertz isn't exactly known for his blocking, the fit makes sense.

The only drawback to joining the Ravens is an inexperienced squad that would have to fight an uphill battle against others in the conference to make it to their first Super Bowl in a decade.

Can Lamar and co. make that push? Absolutely, though many are in "believe it when we see it" mode when it comes to Baltimore. The next two options make more sense if Ertz is ring-chasing.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs tried to acquire DeAndre Hopkins via trade in the offseason, and now they could be after another former Cardinals pass-catcher in Ertz.

Ertz would have the luxury of joining a squad that, at this point, surprises people when they don't make the Super Bowl. The 8-3 Chiefs sit right behind Baltimore in the conference and are playing some strong complementary football.

A seasoned team ready, proven and capable of getting another ring plus Travis Kelce carrying most of the load at tight end? There's a lot to like about Ertz's place in KC.

The rich could get richer, but there's no place like home.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

It almost makes too much sense.

Philadelphia has seen some tough sledding recently when it comes to the health of their tight end room, and Ertz could provide a much needed spark to the position to once again pair with a (hopefully) healthy Dallas Goedert moving forward.

Ertz has deep roots in Philly and left on a bittersweet note after being traded at the deadline to Arizona just a few years ago.

After losing last year's Super Bowl, Philadelphia is on a mission to not only go back again, but win the whole thing.

How poetic would it be for Ertz to rejoin the Eagles and help win another title to cap his career?

Aside from the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia is a favorite to emerge out of a fairly top-heavy NFC. The Eagles are humming at 10-1 and are two games above the 49ers and Detroit Lions for the No. 1 seed.

All four teams are solid options with varying reasonings for Ertz to join, but when you evaluate everything from top to bottom, Philadelphia is the low-hanging fruit for many reasons.
