The preseason allows teams to glance at the play of their roster in action. More often than not, it is more of a glimpse at depth players as they fight to make the 53-man roster. When the preseason concludes, teams cut down on their roster size for the season.

Players might end up on the practice squad, or they could be out of a job entirely. That depends on if another team liked what they saw out of the player. Subsequently, a trade could happen for a cut candidate. Players get jumbled around often in the NFL.

This offseason is no different. There will be a training camp and preseason. When that has concluded, teams trim down the roster. That is the cycle of the NFL.

ESPN released a list of cut candidates for all 32 teams. Some choices were surprising, and others anticipated.

The Rams Cut Candidate

The Rams contender is offensive tackle, Bobby Evans, according to Sarah Barshop. He played below expectations last year and is in the final year of his contract. Evans allowed two sacks in 91 snaps last season.

With his contract concluding at the end of the year, Evans is a cut candidate if he can’t play himself into a roster spot.

Evans is expected to be in a camp competition with rookie Logan Bruss for the starting right guard spot. If Evans loses, Rams fans should expect to see him cut after the preseason.

The Rams have a plethora of young offensive linemen on the roster. Evans has played on the team since 2019 and has yet to make a mark. With Evans’ contract ending after the season, the Rams might as well allow him to get another opportunity if he loses the camp competition.

Maybe a team wants to trade for the contract-year player. That would be the best-case scenario for the Rams. The team likely lets Evans leave, so if you can accumulate draft capital for him, that is a win-win scenario.
