Rams re-signing former Cowboys kicker Brett Maher

The Los Angeles Rams (9-7) are re-signing veteran kicker Brett Maher, head coach Sean McVay announced Monday.

Maher, 34, kicked in seven games earlier this season for Los Angeles before releasing him in late October. Maher connected on 17-of-23 field goal attempts for a 73.9% average. Four of his six misses came from 50 plus yards. His longest make came from 54 yards. The Rams parted ways with him after he missed two field goals and an extra point in the 24-17 Week 7 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7).

Maher underwent a period of struggles last season kicking for the Dallas Cowboys (11-5), notably missing an NFL playoff record four extra points in the NFC Wild Card victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the Rams playoff bound, Maher will have a shot to redeem himself this time around.

Hours before bringing back Maher, Los Angeles waived Lucas Havrisik. Havrisik, the first-year kicker out of Arizona, hit on 15-of-20 attempts for a 75.0% average in nine games. His longest make came from 52 yards. He also missed three extra points, two coming in Sunday’s 26-25 win over the New York Giants (5-11).
