As he does almost every year, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay had to reorganize his staff after many of his coaches got poached by other teams. In their most recent hire, they land Dave Ragone, a coach taking a bit of a demotion to join McVay’s staff in L.A.

Ragone was a former third-round pick and five-year NFL player. As a coach, he spent three years in the Tennessee Titans organization, five years with the Chicago Bears and the last three years with the Atlanta Falcons. He has jumped from a wide receivers coach to a quarterbacks coach and then — with the Falcons — he received the big promotion to offensive coordinator.

Now with the Rams, he is leaving his post as an offensive coordinator to return to coaching quarterbacks, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Under Ragone’s leadership, the Falcons had some up and down years offensively. His first season as offensive coordinator saw the Falcons rank No. 27 in offensive defense-adjusted value over average (DVOA). However, his second season saw a leap all the way to No. 8 before dropping back down to No. 24 in his third season.

Of course, through it all, the Falcons had inconsistency at the quarterback position that would have made it impossible for any offensive coordinator to succeed. Matthew Stafford is better than any quarterback that has taken a snap in Atlanta over the last three seasons.

And to bring in someone with offensive coordinator experience to lead the quarterback room is a chance for more smart minds underneath McVay. The Rams signal caller has always been good about surrounding himself with intelligent football minds.

Rams’ Jake Peetz hired as Seahawks pass game coordinator

The Rams coaching staff has been poached at an incredible rate this offseason after a surprise 2023 campaign that saw L.A. secure a place in the postseason when many believed they could contend for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. The latest Rams coach to find a new home this offseason is former pass game specialist Jake Peetz.

He was brought on as an offensive assistant coach before being promoted to pass game specialist in 2023. He finds a home with the Seattle Seahawks and their new coaching staff after one season as a pass game specialist in L.A.
