Raiders GM Tom Telesco Cannot Afford To 'Patch Up' Right Tackle Spot
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

For far too long, the Las Vegas Raiders have often relied on patching up the right tackle spot. Can you name the last franchise right tackle? My point exactly.

This isn’t a knock on Thayer Munford, not at all. However, there shouldn’t be a plausible scenario where he’s your everyday starter.

The truth is, general manager Tom Telesco and Co. must prioritize the right tackle spot regardless of what the plan is at quarterback, but that’s especially true if a rookie quarterback is the chosen path. Well, luckily for the Raiders’ brain trust, this year might finally give the Silver and Black their long-awaited solution. Let’s give some credit to Telesco; he’s not sitting on his laurels; he recently signed a familiar face for new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy in the form of Cody Whitehair, a former Pro Bowler.

While the interior is shaping up nicely, that key slot on the right side is still up for grabs.

Options At Right Tackle For The Raiders

With Jermaine Eluemunor now departed, how do the Raiders go about replacing him? Well, if the No. 13 pick is where the team will stand, there’ll be a plethora of options. Chief among those possibilities will be Taliese Fuaga and Olu Fashanu—or even Alabama’s J.C. Latham (we hear the collective groan from Raiders fans at the thought of another lineman from that school).

Drafting an offensive lineman is not the “flashiest” or “sexiest” move; we get it, Raider Nation. Even so, Kolton Miller needs someone opposite of him to hold down the right side for the next decade—it’s time.
