Raiders Free Agents: RB Ameer Abdullah

The Las Vegas Raiders handled their running back position like many other positions on their roster last season. The Silver and Black were sure to have a mixture of youth and veteran experience in almost every position, including running back.

Their running back room, however, was more interesting, as they had a starter in All-Pro Josh Jacobs, who had proven he could handle a season's worth of carrying the load for Las Vegas, as he had done for most of his five years with the team.

The Raiders also had a combination of running backs behind him who could collectively carry the load if need be, should Jacobs not be able to.

Up until Jacobs' injury late in the season, he was on pace to finish with nearly 80 percent of the team's carries for a second consecutive season, leaving few meaningful carries for the backs behind him.

The presence of Zamir White and Ameer Abdullah, however, alleviated Jacobs' injury.

The Raiders will first have to figure out the future of their franchise running back, Jacobs, and then decide if they'd like to move forward with running back by committee, as they did in Jacobs' absence late this season.

With or without Jacobs, Abdullah still presents a valuable option for Las Vegas.

Abdullah is a veteran whose leadership and running style would fit well with White's powerful running style. This would give the Raiders two backs who complement each other.

Fortunately for the Raiders, they've already seen what the duo would look like during the last few weeks of this season when Jacobs missed time.

White and Abdullah and their affordable contracts give the Raiders options at the running back position.

Abdullah is a change-of-pace back who is more valuable to the Raiders catching the ball out of the backfield than he is running the ball.

This would make him even more of an asset to Las Vegas if Jacobs were to walk in free agency, as catching the ball out of the backfield is an area White is working to improve in, but comes naturally to Abduallah.

Having White and Abdullah would give the Raiders' offense flexibility at the running back position next season and do so at an affordable cost.

If Las Vegas can keep Abdullah on the roster at a reasonable price, it may be a good idea to do so.
