Promising second-year TE's injury another massive loss for Broncos offense

When it comes to injuries, the Denver Broncos receiving corps can't catch a break.

Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, tight end Greg Dulcich will miss multiple weeks after suffering a hamstring injury. The same injury sidelined him for seven games last season.

It's a huge blow for Denver because the second-year tight end was a potential breakout candidate. During his rookie season, the former UCLA Bruin showed promise, catching 33 passes for 411 yards and two TDs in 10 games.

Plus, the Broncos couldn't afford to lose another dependable pass-catcher. Wide receiver Tim Patrick suffered a season-ending Achilles tear during training camp. Jerry Jeudy injured his hamstring in a joint practice with the Rams on Aug. 24. He sat out against the Raiders in Week 1, and it's not clear when he will return.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton is an offensive mastermind, yet he can only do so much with a thin receiving corps. In a 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver recorded 177 passing yards and averaged a meager 4.6 yards per pass.

The Broncos lack the draft capital and cap space ($1.9M) to trade for a star wideout, such as Tampa Bay's Mike Evans. Thus, it should sign a veteran WR or TE instead. Former Pro Bowl WR Kenny Golladay and TE Cameron Brate, a Super Bowl champion, are available.

Additionally, Denver should emphasize the run game since it was the most reliable facet of the offense in Week 1. Running backs Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine combined for 93 rushing yards on 21 carries (4.4 yards per attempt).

Both of these options will help the Broncos offense manage while Dulcich and Jeudy heal.
