Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II gets an F on 2024 NFLPA Report Card
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II received an F grade on the 2024 NFLPA Report Card, released Wednesday by the NFLPA.

Rooney is one of three owners to earn an F or worst on the annual Report Card. Michael Bidwill of the Arizona Cardinals also received and F, while the Kansas City Chiefs’ ownership group spearheaded by Clark Hunt got an F-.

“There is little confidence among respondents in the willingness of club owner Art Rooney II to invest in a better workplace, as he ranks second to last in this year’s report,” the Report Card states.

Rooney, 71, assumed ownership of the Steelers in 2017 following the passing of his father, Dan Rooney. He has served as team president since 2003 and prior to that, was the vice president and general counsel of the Steelers. Rooney has been on the board of directors of the Steelers since 1989.

Pittsburgh graded out poorly almost across the board, ranked 28th of 32 teams. The Steelers also earned an F for their locker room and tied for a league-worst F- in treatment of players’ families along with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Washington Commanders.

Steelers’ Mike Tomlin earns stellar grade for performance as HC

The Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin earned the best score for the franchise, an A. Tomlin is one of 12 head coaches to receive an A or better. It was noted that 98% of players feel Tomlin is efficient with their time (sixth overall) and that he is very willing to listen to the locker room (ninth overall).

“The Pittsburgh Steelers ranked 28th this year,” the Report Card says. “Unsurprisingly, the highest marks for the club go to head coach Mike Tomlin, with respondents reporting that he creates a great workplace culture by respecting them and their time. Beyond Mike Tomlin, in the opinion of responding players, the Steelers fall short and far behind workplace standards across the NFL.”

The Steelers ranked 22nd among 32 teams on the 2023 NFLPA Report Card.
