“Hate us cause they ain’t us”. The message from Johnson was simple and made his thoughts very clear on the play. While other teams have tried to emulate the play, they haven’t had the efficiency that the Eagles have. It is a testament to Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and the rest of the offensive line. They have perfected the play. Other teams are saying the play isn’t a “football play” and it is an unfair advantage. Furthermore, it isn’t fun to watch in some people’s minds. If Goodell wants it banned, it likely will get the axe in the offseason.

Argument Against It

I understand the argument for banning it and because the Eagles aren’t my favorite team, I’m indifferent. However, the argument against banning it is that it only really affects one team, the Eagles. Again, others have tried but have not had the sustained success the Eagles have. It seems really odd that the NFL would look to ban a play that punishes one team way more than the others. If it becomes rampant around the NFL where 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 tries become automatic, absolutely look to ban the play. However, when it is just one team, that feels a little harsh.

No doubt the Eagles, and other teams, will keep running the play until they no longer can. This will be one of the big questions of the offseason. Does the play get banned?
