Patriots say goodbye to another Belichick

For the second time in less than a month, the New England Patriots are saying goodbye to a member of the Belichick family.

The Patriots and longtime head coach Bill Belichick mutually agreed to part ways on January 11 and former All-Pro linebacker-turned inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo was hired as the replacement the next day.

Mayo confirmed two weeks ago that both Steve Belichick and his brother, Brian Belichick had offers to retain their roles on the staff as defensive assistant and safeties coach, respectively. The former joined his father's staff in 2012 and was the team's defensive play-caller and outside linebackers coach last season, while the latter had been in his position since 2020.

The new Huskies coordinator worked with incoming first-year Washington head coach Jedd Fisch in 2020, when he was the quarterbacks coach in New England.

Fisch agreed to a seven-year contract on Jan. 14 to become the Huskies new leader, days after the program saw former head coach Kalen DeBoer take over at the University of Alabama. DeBoer joined the Crimson Tide two days after it was first reported that Nick Saban was retiring.

Belichick and Fisch join a program that went 14-1 last season and fell to Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
