Patriots legend has bold prediction about Chiefs dynasty

Former New England Patriots safety and current NFL analyst Devin McCourty believes Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce, GM Brett Veach, HC Andy Reid and team chairman/CEO Clark Hunt are all chasing the six Super Bowl championships won by the Patriots from 2000 through February 2019.

"Travis Kelce will be hanging on as long as possible to play," McCourty explained during an appearance on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show," as shared by Harrison Reno of Fan Nation's Patriots Country. "I think the Hunt family will be pouring in whatever amount of money that Veach and Reid think they need. Like, why wouldn't you? ... We keep seeing all these graphics where you put Mahomes and (Tom Brady) after his first seven or six years."

Mahomes isn't shy about the fact his overall goal "is always seven," a reference to the seven Super Bowl rings Brady collected during his historic career. While Brady also retired as a five-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player, Mahomes became a three-time champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP long before he turns 29 years old this coming September.

As of late Thursday morning, both Kelce (34 years old) and Reid (turns 66 years old in March) are set to run it back with the Chiefs for at least one more season as they pursue a fourth title since February 2020 and the first ever Super Bowl three-peat. McCourty suggested Mahomes' presence will help keep the band together in Kansas City until further notice.

"They understand [they] have somebody who is very rare and as awesome as Brady was," McCourty added. "We're one year removed from him playing football, and we're already talking about a guy who could possibly catch him. I think Kansas City will pour every single resource into not just trying to catch the Patriots or be even, [but] to, like, set something that will never be caught."

Some may forget the Patriots dynasty went 10 years before it claimed its fourth title in February 2015. If Mahomes can help prevent the Chiefs from experiencing such a drought, it may merely be a matter of "when" he and Kansas City catch Brady and New England as it pertains to total Super Bowl championships.
