Patriots bring in two free agents for workouts after loss to Commanders
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots brought in two free agents for workouts on Monday following their embarrassing loss to the Washington Commanders.

And one was a familiar face.

Defensive tackles Carl Davis and Daviyon Nixon were at Gillette Stadium for tryouts, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

Davis was signed to the Patriots practice squad during the 2020 season, but was placed on injured reserve just over a month later and did not return.

He signed a contract extension with New England before 2021 season, and re-signed with them once again in 2022. Davis was released by the Patriots as part of the final roster cuts prior to his season.

A third round pick out of Iowa in 2015, Davis has had stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars during his career. Most recently, he was with the Seattle Seahawks, as a member of the practice squad but was waived at the end of October.

As for Nixon, he joined the league in 2021, being drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was placed on injured reserve during his rookie season with a knee injury. Prior to his second season, Nixon was waived and re-signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster soon after, but was waived once again later that month.

Nixon most recently spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, getting signed at the end of the 2022 season, but was waived six days later.

The Patriots have yet to sign either of the defensive tackles after their workout.
