Patrick Mahomes gives perfect reaction to Kansas City Chiefs drafting Xavier Worthy

Then Mahomes continued to share some of the happiest tweets from his Chiefs teammates. Remember, KC is trying for a third-straight Super Bowl victory. They overcame a lack of star receivers this past season to make it to the Super Bowl, then beat the 49ers in overtime.

Chiefs center Creed Humphrey had the funniest post regarding the Worthy selection. He shared a meme of two heavy set men racing each other. And he captioned it “Me trying to keep up on WR screens this year.”

Worthy won’t be the only Chiefs receiver used in the screen game. A month before the draft, KC signed the fleet Marquise “Hollywood” Brown as a free agent. Brown, the former Oklahoma star, was a Ravens’ first-round pick. His most recent team was Arizona, where he caught passes from Kyler Murray.

Brown also had thoughts about Worthy. He tweets under the name “Primetime_jet.” And he posted “ohh yeah we lit.”

The Chiefs traded with the Bills to move from No. 32, the final pick of the first round, to No. 28. Receivers proved to be more popular than quarterback. There were seven selected — Worthy was No. 5. There also were 10 wideouts drafted among the first 37 picks.

The Chiefs offense probably was at its peak when KC featured Tyreek Hill running screens or taking his routes deep to blow the top off a defense. But Hill signed a free agent deal with the Dolphins two years ago, with Miami making the receiver the highest paid in the NFL.

The Chiefs selected Worthy, whose 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash broke the NFL Combine record. Plus, there’s Brown, who is a more experienced version of Worthy, although he’s not quite as quick.

Reid said he believes Worthy is most like former Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson. Meanwhile, KC GM Brett Veach said with Worthy, the Chiefs will have an offense that can brutalize a defense in multiple ways.

“It’s a speed game and the more speed you have on the field, the harder it is for defenses to take away different elements of the game,” Veach told reporters. “Anytime you can add speed and add a guy with that type of versatility, I think you’re going to be interested.

“Just our ability to play vertical and have speed on the field at all times and having Xavier and Hollywood … I think as the season goes on here, I think we’ll have just an offense that can attack in multiple different ways and always keep defenses guessing.”

Reid said he believes Worthy is most like former Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson.

Worthy and Mahomes have been chatting, at least informally, since the combine. Worthy definitely wanted to play with Mahomes and the Chiefs. Mahomes is happy, too.
