Pass-rusher Benson Mayowa staying with Seahawks on two-year deal

A defensive end who began his career with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2013 isn't yet ready to end his second stint with the club.

ESPN's Brady Henderson reports that pass-rusher Benson Mayowa is staying with the Seahawks on a new two-year contract. During the 2020 campaign, Mayowa recorded six sacks, seven tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, nine quarterback hits, and 24 total tackles across 13 regular-season games. According to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, the 29-year-old was on the field for 50 percent of Seattle’s defensive snaps.

Mayowa tallied a career-best seven sacks in 2019 playing for the Oakland Raiders. He's notched at least one sack every season since 2014 and has accumulated 26 quarterback takedowns in regular-season play during his NFL tenure. He initially rejoined Seattle on a one-year agreement last April.

According to ESPN stats, the Seahawks finished the 2020 regular season seventh with 46 sacks.
