Panthers OC Thomas Brown Receives Interest for Head Coaching Job
USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans have requested to interview Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown for their head coaching job, according to Kimberly A. Martin of ESPN.

This is quite surprising considering the year the Panthers' offense just went through. Of course, Brown shouldn't shoulder the entire blame but for anyone to be associated with what happened on that side of the ball to be considered for a head coaching job this cycle is a little shocking.

Brown coordinated the offense in lockstep with then head coach Frank Reich for the first six weeks of the regular season but did not call the plays. Following an 0-6 start to the season, Reich handed the play-calling duties over in hopes of generating a spark. In Brown's first game calling the shots, the Panthers defeated the Houston Texans, 15-13. Two weeks later, Reich sensed his job was on the line and took back the play-calling but would be fired after the loss to Tennessee.

The Panthers did show some signs of life on Christmas Eve where they fell short in a shootout with Green Bay, 33-30. However, they failed to get on the board in each of the final two games of the season becoming the first team since the 2008 Cleveland Browns to be shutout in consecutive weeks.

Carolina finished the year dead last in points per game (13.9), total offense (265.3), passing (161.2), and 20th in rushing (104.1).
