Packers' Jordan Love is getting comparisons to Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen

Jordan Love is doing his best to replace Aaron Rodgers — a four-time MVP and Super Bowl winner — for the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers, for his part, replaced Brett Favre, a three-time MVP and Super Bowl champion.

That's the standard of quarterback play in Green Bay, so Love already has that kind of pressure on his shoulders. That's not even counting comparisons to the quarterback who may very well supplant Rodgers and (perhaps) even Tom Brady on the quarterback GOAT list one day: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Oh, and if you don't like him (but seriously, how couldn't you?), how about Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills?

Those are exactly the type of comparisons Love is getting after he led the Packers back from a 17-0 fourth-quarter deficit to beat the New Orleans Saints this past weekend.

Former NFL quarterback turned high-level ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, in particular, gushed over Love when he flashed superstar potential on a pivotal two-point conversion play that he connected on. Breaking down the play after the game, Orlovsky gave all kinds of praise to the 2020 first-round pick.

Love had felt pressure coming from New Orleans' defense and instead of stepping up into the pocket, he sprinted right into open field. He had just scored with his legs on a read-option so it may have been in his mind to try running the ball in again, but at the last moment, he snapped his head back to the right and found second-year wideout Somari Toure who had broken open on the left side of the end zone.

"I don't care who you are, I don't care how long you've played — this is a sick play," Orlovsky said. "That's pretty remarkable.

"That's a pretty freaking sick play, Jordan Love."

Love hasn't always been perfect this season — for instance, he has a 53.1% completion percentage — but he has shown flashes of otherworldly talent in three games and he very clearly has the moxie and demeanor to be a high-level NFL quarterback.

If not flinching at replacing the legend who replaced the legend in Green Bay didn't already win over his doubters, perhaps this past weekend's amazing comeback — and the plays he made in that comeback — will.
