NFL Week 13 fantasy: Surprises, disappointments & waiver adds

Week 13 was filled with big fantasy performances and major injuries, particularly at quarterback. Here's a look at the week's biggest surprises, disappointments, and waiver additions.

Surprise: Cam Akers, RB, Rams

Akers had his most productive game of the year for fantasy managers, with a season-high 17 carries for 60 yards and two scores, plus one reception. After sitting home for much of October, Akers has once again emerged as LA's lead back and an even more important part of the offense with Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp sidelined.

Surprise: Jahan Dotson, WR, Commanders

Injuries have plagued Dotson for much of his rookie campaign, but he stepped up against the division-rival Giants on Sunday with five carries for 54 yards and one touchdown. Dotson's nine targets were second on the team and should earn him attention from fantasy managers.

Surprise: Alec Pierce, WR, Colts

It's been a frustrating season for all players involved with the Colts' passing game, though Pierce has shown promise in his rookie season. He had one of his best games so far, with four catches for 86 yards and one touchdown on eight targets.

Surprise: D'Andre Swift, RB, Lions

Jamaal Williams has led the Lions backfield lately, but a blowout win over the Jaguars allowed Swift to get more work. His 14 carries were his most since Week 1, garnering 62 yards and one touchdown. Swift added four catches for 49 yards to make for a very productive fantasy day.

Surprise: Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets

What a difference a competent quarterback makes. Wilson had a strong first game with Mike White under center last week, but he was no fire against the Vikings. He finished with eight catches for 162 yards on a whopping 15 targets. Wilson is entering WR1 territory for the stretch run.

Disappointment: Derrick Henry, RB, Titans

When Henry struggles, it's a fair bet that the Titans had a rough game. That was the case at Philadelphia, as he had only 30 yards rushing on 11 carries and two catches for eight yards.

Disappointment: Aaron Jones, RB, Packers

Jones has been Green Bay's lead back for most of the season, but he's started to take a step back behind AJ Dillon over the last two games. He had only half of Dillon's carries, finishing with nine totes for 26 yards and five catches for 24 yards.

Disappointment: Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos

How low can the Broncos passing game go? They failed to accumulate 200 passing yards again, and Sutton failed to record a catch with only one target and left with a hamstring injury late.

Disappointment: Deshaun Watson, QB, Browns

Watson hadn't played an NFL regular season game in nearly two years, and the rust showed in his first game back from suspension. He completed only 12-of-22 passes for 131 yards with one pick, adding seven carries for 21 yards. Fortunately, the Browns didn't need much offensive help in a 27-14 win at Houston.

Disappointment: Jeffrey Wilson, RB, Dolphins

Wilson was a strong fantasy performer in his first three games with Miami, but that changed on Sunday. He saw the field sparingly behind Raheem Mostert, finishing with one carry for three yards and two targets. With Mostert healthy, Wilson's fantasy status looks unreliable.

Waiver Add: DeeJay Dallas, RB, Seahawks

The Seahawks lost Rashaad Penny earlier this season, and Kenneth Walker suffered an ankle injury on Sunday. His status is unclear for Week 14, but DeeJay Dallas stands as an important insurance policy. Dallas had 10 carries for 37 yards against the Rams, leading Seattle's backfield.

Waiver Add: Isaiah Hodgins, WR, Giants

New York's wide receiver injuries have forced some unknown players into action, and Hodgins is the latest player to emerge. The third-year wideout was added from Buffalo earlier this season and had a breakout game with five catches for 44 yards and one touchdown. He's probably not anything more than the team's third target at this point, but that could be enough for an add in deep leagues.

Waiver Add: Tyler Huntley, QB, Ravens

Lamar Jackson suffered a knee injury on Sunday, forcing Huntley into action. He couldn't get the Ravens' offense going on short passes, completing 27-of-32 passes for 187 yards and one interception, but his mobility was valuable with 10 carries for 41 yards and one score. Huntley's ability to run gave him fantasy valuable when he got an opportunity to start last season, and he looks like a fine fill-in option now if Jackson misses more time.

Waiver Add: Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Titans

Okonkwo had a breakout game with four catches for 68 yards, and it comes at the right time with wideout Treylon Burks' near future in question due to a concussion. At the very least, the rookie Okonkwo looks like a dynasty stash.

Waiver Add: Brock Purdy, QB, 49ers

Waiver Add: Brock Purdy, QB, 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending foot injury early in Sunday's game, but Purdy was there to rescue the 49ers. The rookie out of Iowa State had an impressive performance, completing 25-of-37 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers are set to run with Purdy the rest of the way, and he could be worthy of a stash based on what he showed in his first game.
