NFL Analyst Doesn’t Hold Back On Steelers, Russell Wilson
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of this 2024 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers made significant changes to their quarterback lineup. Out went Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, and Mitch Trubisky, and in came Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

This overhaul marks a substantial upgrade and creates a welcome “good” predicament for the team, with two strong potential options at quarterback.

Presently, Russell Wilson appears to have the edge in the competition for the QB1 position. While the challenge ahead is formidable, this opportunity also offers Wilson the chance to rejuvenate his career.

However, not everyone shares the same certainty about the outcome. Craig Carton, for instance, expressed reservations about the Steelers’ situation, casting doubt on the potential outcome during a segment on The Carton Show.

Nevertheless, Carton’s skepticism notwithstanding, there is a palpable sense of optimism surrounding the Steelers.

The possibility of them winning their division isn’t dismissed outright. This optimism is tempered by the knowledge that the AFC North Division boasts formidable competition, with all four teams harboring postseason aspirations.

Notably, the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens are considered legitimate Super Bowl contenders within the division.

Despite historically enduring a subpar quarterback situation, the Steelers have managed to maintain a .500 or better record and secured a playoff berth last season. This resilience underscores the coaching prowess of Mike Tomlin, who has demonstrated that exceptional quarterback play isn’t a prerequisite for success. Therefore, even if Wilson and/or Fields don’t perform at an elite level, the Steelers remain formidable due to their coaching staff and defensive capabilities.

With the right contributions from their quarterbacks, the Steelers could emerge as serious contenders within the AFC North.
