NFC East had an enormous drop-off in playoff success

Last year's NFL playoffs had three teams from the NFC East in the final four from the conference.

Following the Dallas Cowboys' upset loss against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and the Philadelphia Eagles' road loss to the Tampa Buccaneers on Monday, the division will have no representatives in next weekend's divisional round.

Last season: the NFC East became the first division since 1997 with 3 teams in the Divisional Round.

The NFC East as a whole was much better during the 2022 regular season than in 2023, as all four teams finished at .500 or better last year.

The Eagles coasted to a league-best 14-3 mark in 2022 and made it to the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys finished 12-5. The New York Giants qualified for the playoffs at 9-7-1 and even the Washington Commanders exceeded expectations by going 8-8-1.

After taking care of the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round last year, the Giants were blown out 38-7 in the divisional round by Philadelphia. Dallas ended three-time MVP Tom Brady's career in the wild-card round one year ago Tuesday, before losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

This winter, new ownership couldn't save the Commanders from a 4-13 record and another last-place finish, while the Giants saw starting quarterback Daniel Jones go down in Week 9 with a season-ending torn ACL. Despite a brief magical run under center by undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito, the team still finished 6-11.

Philadelphia raced out to a 10-1 start in 2023 before limping into the postseason by losing six of its final seven contests and getting blown out by Tampa Bay on Monday. Dallas finished the regular season 12-5, including a perfect 8-0 mark at home, yet were stunned by the seventh-seeded Packers on Sunday, 48-32.
