This is not the news that New York Giants veteran linebacker Jarrad Davis wanted to hear right before training camp. The rookies started today with the veterans joining next week. Davis will not be among them. The team placed in on the injured reserve on Tuesday ending his 2023 season.
It is a knee injury that will end his season. The former first-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2017 signed with the team last year off of the Lions’ practice squad. He ended up starting both playoff games for the team and looked to have a vital role in 2023. The Giants will now have to rely on other players like second-year player Kayvon Thibodeaux to pick up the slack and try to repeat last season’s success.
It’s going to be tough for the Giants. The status of Saquon Barkley is a concern as they were not able to agree to a long-term deal before the franchise tag deadline. While the team did make the playoffs, they didn’t necessarily wow anyone on the way there. New head coach Brian Daboll made some key decisions that seemed to push the team to victory and this could still be the case this season. Ultimately, everything rests on Daniel Jones. He had a career year and got the big contract and now will have to prove he deserves it.
The New York Giants will go into 2023 without Jarrad Davis. Keep an eye on the linebacker battle in training camp as a spot just opened up for someone to make an impression.
