New Raiders RB Coach Foster Leaves for UCLA
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders will have to find another coach for their running back room shortly after finding an unexpected new offensive coordinator. According to Pete Thamel, the Las Vegas Raiders have lost another incoming coach to other coaching opportunities.

This time, the Raiders lost out on running back coach DeShaun Foster, who recently agreed to take the coaching spot in Las Vegas. Foster, who played at UCLA, had been a coach on UCLA's staff for most of the last decade.

Foster had a successful career as a running back at UCLA, rushing for over 3,000 yards, including over 1,100 yards in his last season with the Bruins.

While Foster had been with UCLA for most of the previous decade, he spent a season as running backs coach at Texas Tech.

The Carolina Panthers drafted in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He'd have a productive career in the National Football League, rushing for over 3,500 yards, 11 touchdowns, and registering over 100 catches for over 1,000 receiving yards. He did so while playing in more than 75 games.

After retiring from the National Football League in 2009, Foster would begin his coaching career with UCLA and then Texas Tech, with Kliff Kingsbury. Ironically, both would leave the Raiders much sooner than anyone thought.

However, Foster's acceptance of the head coaching position with his alma mater, where he made a name for himself and began his coaching career, makes complete sense. He is rightfully excited about the opportunity.

"This is a dream come true," Foster said in a statement. "I always envisioned being a Bruin ever since I was young, and now being the head coach at my alma mater is such a surreal feeling, and I'm grateful for this opportunity. The foundation of this program will be built on discipline, respect, and enthusiasm."

The Raiders will now have to find another coach to fill the void left by Foster's departure. The next running backs coach will have his work cut out for him, with or without Josh Jacobs on the team.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
