New Orleans Saints’ Demario Davis Named Pro Bowl Defensive MVP
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Demario Davis is one of the NFL’s elder statesmen at this point in his career. However, the New Orleans Saints OLD proved that age is just a number after bing recognized as the most impactful defensive player among the numerous Pro Bowlers who gathered in Orlando, Florida the past week.

Moreover, his recent Pro Bowl appearance meant positive news for a team that badly needs it in the NFC South.

New Orleans Saints OLB Demario Davis Named Pro Bowl Games Defensive MVP

During the festivities of the Pro Bowl, Davis was able to make his presence felt on the AFC’s offensive players. His performance during flag football and the other games they played helped him win the award.

Tina Howell of Canal Street Chronicles wrote about this award and what it meant to the 35-year-old linebacker:

Davis said of winning the award, “First, I had a lot of great teammates, the best in the business,” They played awesome. I got to give a major shoutout to them. It was great being on the NFC team, the winning team. But most importantly, being on the winning team, which is the Kingdom of God. That’s where my power comes from. That’s where the glory goes. But being on this stage with the greats. Like Eli Manning, DeMarcus Ware, and going against Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis, the legends of the game, you know you got to be locked in mentally and that’s how we showed up. So, it’s an honor to be here.”

Davis has been an outstanding linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. The last-minute replacement for Fred Warner made sure his presence was felt this past season, notching 6.5 sacks and 74 solo tackles to go with his one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for 20 yards.

The 12-year veteran may not have much left in the tank for the New Orleans Saints, and it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that he’ll get to win a Lombardi trophy with his team. However, he could hope that the team’s new offensive coordinator would do right by him and lead the team to a surprising Super Bowl run next season.
