New Jets’ OT Tyron Smith Sounds Off On Team’s Title Chances
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets signed offensive tackle Tyron Smith earlier this week, and during his introductory press conference, Smith spoke about the Jets’ Super Bowl chances.

“I saw what they can do as far as a team,” Smith said, via Eric Edholm of NFL media. “Everybody wants to win, as any other team does, but I just feel like they have all the pieces together right now — the final piece has been this offseason — to produce a team that could go all the way.”

New York went just 7-10 this past year, but that was after quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on the Jets’ first offensive series of the season.

With Rodgers returning and some impressive offseason additions, New York certainly looks like a playoff contender at the very least heading into 2024.

Smith will be protecting Rodgers’ blind side, and he seems excited to be the future Hall-of-Famer’s teammate.

“I’ve played against Aaron throughout my career a couple times,” Smith said. “I know what kind of quarterback he is, I know what he can do if you just give him a little bit of time. I’m just here to do our best and give him that time.”

Smith, who played his collegiate football at USC, was originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the ninth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He spent the first 13 years of his career with the Cowboys, making eight trips to the Pro Bowl while earning a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.

However, staying on the field has been a major issue for Smith.

Over the last four seasons, the 33-year-old has played in a grand total of 30 games, and he has not played a full campaign since 2015.

There is no doubt that when Smith is healthy, he is one of the game’s best offensive linemen. If the Jets are able to get that version of Tyron Smith, there is no telling how much better their offense will be.
