Ndamukong Suh discusses free-agency plans

Ndamukong Suh's free agency decision could have major implications for the 2023 season. But don't expect it to come anytime soon.

Suh's been great at selecting a contender in free agency over the years. He reached a Super Bowl in each of his past three free agency landing spots -- with the Rams (Super Bowl LIII), Bucs (Super Bowl LV) and Eagles (Super Bowl LVII).

Suh discussed his plans for the 2023 season on "NFL Total Access" and revealed that while he will play this season, he is in no rush to sign with a team. And he has a good reason.

"I have no desire to be in a training camp," Suh said, per NFL.com

After 13 seasons, who could blame him? Suh knows his role and what he needs to do to get the job done.

Plus, there's a reason why former NFL defensive lineman Ryan Riddle called training camp "the worst month of the year for most football players" in an article for Bleacher Report in 2014. Suh has every right to avoid participating in another one like the plague.

On "Total Access," Suh said he's not opposed to signing with a team prior to the start of the regular season, but would only participate as an observer.

"I will come in and watch and look and give some advice, but when Week 1 happens, I'll be ready," Suh said.

Last year was his first since being drafted second overall by Detroit in the 2010 NFL Draft that he didn't start the season on a roster. Suh signed with Philadelphia in Week 11 and the Eagles went on to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, losing to the Chiefs, 38-35.

In 2019, he signed with Bucs and won the Super Bowl the following season (against the Chiefs) after Tampa Bay got an even bigger fish in free agency, Tom Brady.

Suh joined the Rams in 2018 after three seasons with the Dolphins. In his lone season in L.A., the Rams reached the Super Bowl but lost to New England, 13-3.

Most linemen who are 36 wouldn't command much attention in free agency, but Suh isn't like most. He has energy left in the tank and might actually be an oracle.

Whichever team gets Suh will be lucky to have him, if for no other reason than him solidifying it as a championship contender.
