Micah Parsons told Jerry Jones what he must do to end Cowboys' Super Bowl drought

Following another playoff disappointment, Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons claims he told owner Jerry Jones he must upgrade the defensive line to end the Cowboys' 28-year Super Bowl drought.

"I said we need to get a super, 330 [pound] nasty interior [defensive linemen]," Parsons told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. "I think we've got a lot of rushers. I think Ola [Odighizuwa], he can play inside, outside, one of the most versatile DTs. When we lost [Johnathan Hankins], he's a big dude, but we need to get one of them big old, nasty, pass-rushing, get-going [guys]."

Dallas finished 18th in the league in rushing yards (114.1) allowed last season. This came back to bite them in a 48-32 wild-card round loss to Green Bay as Packers running back Aaron Jones ran for three TDs and 118 yards. Shoring up the D-line could solve this problem.

Hankins — listed at 6-foot-3, 320 pounds — enters free agency in March, but the Cowboys could find an upgrade. Star DTs like Chris Jones (Kansas City Chiefs) and Justin Madubuike (Baltimore Ravens) are unrestricted free agents.

Spotrac estimates the Cowboys will be $14.98M over the cap. Parsons and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are in line for contract extensions.

Despite the cap challenges, Jones recently said the team will go "all-in" this offseason, meaning the Cowboys will probably find a way to clear more room and make a splash. Per OTC, extending quarterback Dak Prescott — entering the final year of his contract — saves $26.23M.

If Dallas can't sign a free agent, it should address the position in the draft. Pro Football Network's Will Helms had the Cowboys taking Texas DT T'Vondre Sweat with the 24th overall pick in his latest mock draft.

Pro Football Focus gave the 6-foot-4, 362-pounder a 91.7 grade, the best at his position. He also won the Outland Trophy, awarded to the top D-lineman in college football.
